Learning Bambara

I ni sogoma!  That means good morning in Bambara, the local language in Mali.  I’ve just gotten my textbook and had my first practice converation yesterday.  We spent the whole time discussing greetings and blessings, since in Mali you can’t just say “hi,” you have to also ask about the person’s parents, children, siblings, dog, house, etc.  Apparently I will probably often be asked how my children are, since it is common for Malian women to have children by my age.  I still have to figure out how to say that I don’t have any children…
