Talibés

Coincidentally, after having just wrote about Talibés in Mali, I got an email with a link to an article about the abuse of Talibés in Senegal.  Apparently April 20th is National Talibé Day in Senegal, and Human Rights Watch just released a report saying that, “Tens of thousands of children at residential Quranic schools in Senegal are subjected to slavery-like conditions and severely abused.”  I can’t say how the situation in Senegal compares to that in Mali, but I imagine that there are some unfortunate similarities.
